Radiator Fan

How do you hotwire the fan behind the radiator?

I have an 86' chevy celbrity station wagon for a racecar. I need to hotwire the radiator fan so it turns on when I turn the car on. How do I do this?

it's really easy. all you need is some wire a fuse holder and a relay. you run a wire from a constant 12v source (like the battery or a junction block) into the fuse holder and then to the relay switched side. then you run a wire from the other relay switched terminal to the fan.

then you run a smaller wire from any 12v source that is switched ( you could either run it from something else or you can wire up your own switch) the easiest way is to go in your fuse box and find a fuse that only has power when the ignition is on, and then remove the fuse and wrap the wire around the fuse and stick it back in. run that wire to the relay on the side that activates it. then run the other side of the relay to ground and run the fan to a ground. and your done.

if you don't know about relays, they are real easy to hook up. the relay will have 4 terminals, 2 that activate the relay and 2 that power the fan. the relay usually has a diagram on the side showing you what terminals are what. one side of the diagram will look like a little switch and the other side will look like a little coil. you hook the fan to the switch side and the smaller wires to the coil side. for the fan side you prob want to go with something like 14gauge wire but you can use much smaller wire for the turn on side.

if you try to run the fan without a relay, you will blow fuses or possibly catch your car on fire.
